Looking for a safe and fun way to mark the special occasion? Read the article below for some inspiration, creative ideas and practical tips.

This Mother’s Day is different. Covid-19 has changed the way we communicate, socialize and live our daily lives. In the past, special occasions usually involved brunch, parties, gatherings, gifts and lots of spending. However, most people are adjusted to the idea of scaling back and keeping things simple.

Despite the safety and preventative guidelines in place, there are still plenty of great ways to spend quality time with your mom on March 21st. Read on for suggestions and tips for a fun day out.

Get outdoors

Why not take advantage of the lovely weather and invite your mom to spend the day at the beach, park, or in the desert? This is not only a safer option, but also a less expensive one as you could pack a picnic yourself. If you are up for an adventure, you could even try hiking and camping as there are lots of places where you can do this in the UAE.

Spend a day at the spa

When it comes to Mother’s Day gifts, you can’t go wrong with a spa day. What’s great about this option is that it’s ideal for a relaxing mother-daughter outing, which offers up a lot of downtime and quiet time to catch up on things. Whether you’re going to spend the day at the spa or pamper your mom at the salon, just remember to follow all of the Covid-19 restrictions and measures that are in place.

Think outside the bouquet

Lockdowns, quarantines and remote working has led many of us to spend more time online and get more creative with shopping for special gifts. Categories like books, electronics and gardening or housewares are among the best-selling categories at the moment. as consumers look for gifts that moms can make use of at home.

As your mom will likely be spending most of her time at home, why not gift her a digital subscription to Audible, Netflix or Amazon Prime?

Use tech to connect

For many of us, travel restrictions may be keeping us from seeing our family members who live far away. Time to skip the usual phone call or text message and instead block out some time where you can connect face-to-face via a video call. You can even make the occasion more special by having a special meal delivered, share photos and videos using your screen or even chat when you watch a movie together.

Show her you care

A little bit of effort and planning can go a long way. There are plenty of thoughtful things that can be arranged at home that don’t cost much at all, such as breakfast in bed, personalized cards and gifts made by the kids, a special meal prepared by dad (or food takeout), letting mom sleep in, or taking over the usual cleaning duties, giving her more “me” time etc.

Take her on a virtual tour

Google Arts & Culture has hundreds of 360-degree videos to allow you to feel fully immersed in a wide variety of destinations. Over 2500 museums and galleries around the world are accessible via the platform, which offers virtual tours and online exhibitions of some of the most famous museums around the world.

Still undecided about what to plan for your mom this year? If there’s one thing that any mother would want more than a gift, it would be your time. So, take the opportunity and make the time to see her, whether you commemorate the special occasion in person or virtually.
